🧩 Word Connect Association guide
How to Play Word Connect Association
Word Connect Association is easy to learn and surprisingly deep. This guide explains the rules, how to read a board, and the habits that stop you from wasting lives on the early levels.
The goal
Every level is a board of word tiles. The tiles hide a number of topics, and each topic has exactly four words. Your job is to arrange the tiles so that every row shares one topic. When all rows are correct, the level is complete.
Boards grow as you progress, from 4 topics (16 tiles) on the first level to 9 topics (36 tiles) on most later levels.
Reading the board
Before you touch anything, spend ten seconds on these three questions:
- Which topics can I name right now? Countries, planets and colours usually jump out first.
- Which tiles are odd? Rare words like DULCIMER or BRECCIA usually belong to a narrow topic, so they are great anchors.
- Which tiles could go in two places? Mark these mentally and place them last.
Moving tiles
Drag a tile onto another position to swap it. A row that holds four words from the same topic locks in and shows its topic name, so you get instant feedback when a group is right. On your first level the game shows a hand icon to demonstrate the drag.
Worked example: level 1
The first board mixes 4 easy topics:
- PLANETS: MARS, SATURN, EARTH, JUPITER
- FOOD: PIZZA, STEAK, SALAD, BURGER
- TIME: HOUR, MINUTE, DAY, WEEK
- WATER TRANSPORT: BARGE, BOAT, SHIP, RAFT
Planets are the obvious start. Once MARS, SATURN, EARTH and JUPITER are locked, FOOD and TIME are easy, and the last four tiles have to be the boats. That "leave the leftovers" pattern works on almost every board. See the full level 1 answer.
Mistakes and lives
You play with a limited number of lives (hearts). Failing a level uses one. Lives refill over time, and the game can notify you when they are full again. If you run out, you can wait, spend coins, or watch a rewarded ad for more. Read more in Lives, coins & chests.
Progress and rewards
- Coins are earned by clearing levels and are spent on boosters and lives.
- Milestone chests unlock at set levels and pay out bonus coins.
- The Daily Puzzle adds one extra board a day, with streak bonuses on days 3, 7 and 30. See the Daily Puzzle guide.
- This site covers all 500 campaign levels of version 1.6.
Beginner mistakes
- Grabbing the first four that fit. On 8–9 row boards there are often five or six "birds" or "animals" for a four-tile row. Check for a narrower topic first.
- Ignoring picture groups. A picture tile is a word too; it belongs in a bigger topic. See picture groups.
- Spending the Magic Wand early. Save your strongest booster for the boards that really need it.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a time limit in Word Connect Association?
No. Levels are not timed, so you can take as long as you like to study the board.
What happens when I fail a level?
You lose one life and can try again. When your lives run out you wait for them to refill, or refill them with coins or a rewarded ad.
Can a word belong to two topics?
On paper, yes, and the game uses that on purpose. On the board, though, each tile has exactly one correct row. Look at the whole board to work out which topic needs it more.
